Project Rationale and Process:
For this Typography Project, we collaborated with Bent River Records to design a vinyl album cover for Kevin Dean, a talented jazz musician known for his blend of blues, jazz, and soul. After an online class interview with Dean, I closely studied his album, noting the dynamic rhythms that shifted from upbeat to methodical. I selected bold colors to complement the lighthearted illustrations, combining paint, charcoal, and pen to create texture. This gave the cover a dynamic, contemplative feel that reflects the creativity and essence of jazz present in Dean’s music. Additionally I illustrated the band in a sketchy style that personalized the album for the artists and their fans.
